New Patients
If you are a new patient, don't worry if it has been some time since visiting the dentist, but do not put it off any longer! The health of your teeth and gums is a vital link to your overall health and wellness.
Going to a new Dentist can be a little intimidating, but here at Legacy Dental, we do things a little bit differently. On your first visit, we begin with a consultation and get to know you and your past dental experiences. We listen to what you are feeling and what you believe, because you live with your mouth each and every day. We explain that our philosophy is to keep your teeth and gums healthy for the rest of your life. Sometimes, people believe that it isn't a big deal to pull a tooth. But it is! Tooth loss results in boneloss which results in more tooth loss and before a patient realizes it, they are in dentures. Dentures do not sound so bad whey you are 20 or 30 and you don't think it is ever going to happen to you. And most of us believe that if our parents were in dentures that it is inevitable that we will wind up in them also. But that is just not true!So here is the truth, without teeth, there is nothing to stimulate the bone, so you get bone loss that continues to deteriorate over your lifetime until there is very little for the gums to adhere to making dentures fit properly extremely difficult. Therefore, you do not just have one set that lasts you the remainder of your life. They can be painful, because no matter how you look at it, it is a foreign substance glued to your gumline. Nutrition can be a problem because eating can be painful. Unfortunately, eating steak and other "tough" foods is actually something most denture wearers learn to do without. Last but not least, when you have bone loss, your face actually sinks in and fine lines become deep wrinkles and you look much older than you really are. Innovation in Excellence Dr. Brigden utilizes the Intra Oral Camera: one of the tiniest cameras you will ever see. This small device certainly holds some powerful information! Dr. Brigden uses it to see inside your mouth and transmit images to a screen so you can view areas for needed treatment and feel empowered to make educated decisions about your health. |
