Individual & Family Care
At Legacy Dental we are committed to building relationships and as your family grows, we want to grow with you! It is never too early to get children on the right path of taking care of their teeth. As parents or mentors, we are the example, so we need to make sure we see Dr.Brigden every 6 months for an exam and to get our teeth cleaned. Home care with the proper tooth brush and flossing techniques can make all the difference in the world towards our oral health. Here are some of the questions most frequently asked by parents:

1. What should I use to clean my baby's teeth? Any soft bristled toothbrush with a small head designed for infants is fine. Your baby's teeth should be brushed at least once daily before bedtime.

2. When should I take my child to the Dentist for the first check-up? You are welcome to take your child to the Dentist when the tooth first appears. Every child is different and at Legacy Dental we take things at the child's pace. We want to get them started on the right track and learn that going to the Dentist should be a positive experience!

3. Are thumbsucking and pacifier habits harmful to my child's teeth? Normally, these habits are not harmful unless they go on prolonged beyond having baby teeth. Most children grow out of these habits naturally, but if they do not, a mouth appliance may be suggested to prevent damage to permanent teeth.

4. How often do I take my child to the Dentist? Just like you, every 6 months is recommended, but Dr. Brigden will let you know what his recommendations are based on your child's current oral health.

5. What do I do if my child falls and knocks out a permanent tooth? The most important thing to do is remain calm. This is scary, but try to remain calm and find the tooth. Grab the tooth by the crown and not the root, put the tooth in some milk and call us right away!

To ensure your child gets on the right track, children should start brushing their own teeth as soon as possible. However, parents should brush with them to ensure it is being done properly until the age of seven.
